The early years pave the path for future learning. Let's work together to create a successful trajectory.

Lisa Loughlin

Learning to read is affected by the foundation skills of phonological processing, print awareness, and oral language. Children with more of these skills profit more from reading instruction, learn to read sooner, and read better than children with less of these skills.

Whitehurst & Lonigan, 1998, p.12

Reading Instruction for Elementary Students

I work with students weekly or biweekly.

Reading sessions will be on video call (with parent present) and focused on foundational reading skills.

There is a science in learning to read and reading to learn.  Using the Science of Reading, here are some instructional considerations that I use when designing an evidence-based reading program:

  • Development of phonological skills
  • Decoding words, fluency and vocabulary
  • Comprehension and critical thinking of various texts
  • Building academic language (subject specific vocabulary)
  • Shaping student reading progress and stamina with Reader Ladders, Levelled and Decodable Texts

Expect to see boosted reading engagement and

higher levels of comprehension and critical thinking.
